Red Aqeeq Yemen Mocha Coffee (Silver Series)

This distinctive coffee comes from Al-Ghail Village in the Talooq region of Taiz, Yemen, located on the northern foothills of Mount Sabir. This mountainous plateau has been known for coffee cultivation for centuries and remains one of Yemen’s historic coffee-growing regions.

We named this coffee “RED AQEEQ” after the precious Yemeni red agate stone, a gemstone famous for its deep red and brown tones. The name was inspired by the beautiful color of the coffee cherries during harvest — their vibrant red reminded our local Yemeni team of the natural stone, and the name stayed.

For generations, farmers in this region have cultivated coffee on steep mountain terraces and valleys. Coffee has long been the primary source of income for the village. In the days when the legendary Port of Mocha was active, farmers from Talooq would hand-pick their cherries and transport them by camel across the mountains to the port, where the coffee was exported to the world.

Today, the region faces severe water shortages that make coffee cultivation increasingly difficult each year. To support the community, Mocha Origins has helped provide wells in the area, working together with farmers to address some of the challenges they face.

The village is home to around 70 farming families, who grow coffee alongside other crops such as corn, potatoes, and peaches to support their livelihoods.

From this land rich in history and resilience comes a cup that reflects the enduring spirit of Yemeni coffee.
